The year was 1992 Rudy Bergner was selling for Funks Hybrids (Ciba Seeds). After a company restructure Rudy was informed he was going to be relocated. This was a fork in the road, to leave Tuscola which he had built his life in over the past 22 years or to change companies. But there was a third option, to start his own seed company, which he did. Rudy Called his son, Mike, who was selling paper forms in Southern California and pitched him the idea. Mike returned home soon after. Rudy, Scarlet and Mike started NU-AG Seeds June 5, 1992.
For the first few years NU-AG was ran out of a local farmers shed, just outside of Tuscola. Office work was done at Rudy and Scarlet's house. after a few years of hard work and saving up, Rudy and Scarlet bought the current location. An old Panhandle property on the corner of U.S. Route 45 and Hayes Road, five miles north of Tuscola. The property was little more than a natural gas compressor building and a shop surrounded by weeds. Over the next 23 years at the present location Mike and Rudy have added an office, loading dock and 3 warehouses.
At the end of 2017 Rudy "Retired" and turned over the company to Mike. Four years later Mikes son, Dayton, joined the family business after graduating from the University of Illinois.
In 2023 Mike and Dayton began construction on a new state of the art grain conditioning facility. This includes 16 storage bins, a Cambria-Delta Screen Cleaner, Profile Rotary Sorter, Oliver Hi-Cap Density Separator and Satake Optical Sorter to provide you with the best quality seed possible! In order to install the grain conditioning equipment a relocation of our yeild comparison machinery was necessary, this required us to build an additional machine shed for holding everything needed for testing your NU-AG Seeds corn and soybean lineup.
As NU-AG Seeds continues to expand we are constantly looking for ways to bring the best products to you, our Growers.
